Tom,
I too have missed the presence of the Chrinitoid at RPI, and I note its absence on every return trip (I was class of 1984, CompSci). Today I saw a picture of some other sculpture online and thought of the Chrinitoid and once again plugged it into Google, but this time I found your page and the indication that it had been found! Now if I ever make it to Zurich I will definitely have to visit it. Thanks for locating it!

Dennis Callan here, Class of 74. When I was at the Tute the moving wings seemed a bit out of place. BUT, the simplicity of it grew on you! I could not believe that it was no longer there. I remember reading about a while back. These memories all came back to me recently when I had the opportunity to visit the Frank Lloyd Wright home Kentuck Knob located near his Fallingwater southeast of Pittsburgh. As I was touring the home I noted a moving sculpture and immediately thought it was a Rickey. And sure enough it was. There are several other Rickey sculptures at the home. Seeing them brought back fond memories which I had to explain to my fiancé Karen. Thus the Google search which brought up this site! So thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI get so upset at RPI. They use some stupid font for the letters RPI these days. I read that the Institute is in serious trouble financially yet make huge retention bonuses to President Jackson. What happened to all the money that was gifted to them a while back. Huge amount as I recall.
Oh well, I guess you can't really ever go home again. I wish the Rickey was still there. It is comforting to know that it is still spinning in space albeit so far away. Spin on my lonely friend. RPI misses your presence.
